Green turtle
Named for the greenish colour of the fat under its shell, the green turtle is one of the largest hard-shelled sea turtles. Adults are mostly herbivorous, grazing on seagrass and algae.
Hawksbill
The hawksbill has a narrow, pointed beak and a beautifully patterned shell. It lives around coral reefs, where it feeds mainly on sponges.
Leatherback
The leatherback is the largest sea turtle of all, and the only one without a hard shell โ instead it has a leathery, ridged back. It dives deeper than any other and feeds mostly on jellyfish.
Loggerhead
The loggerhead has a large, powerful head and strong jaws, which it uses to crush hard-shelled prey like crabs and whelks. It’s one of the most widely distributed sea turtles.
Olive ridley
One of the smallest sea turtles, the olive ridley is named for the olive-green colour of its shell. It’s famous for arribadas โ mass nesting events where thousands of females come ashore together.
